PET SCANNER - Nuclear Medicine Department
PET/CT, most often called PET scanner, is a latest generation positron emission tomography (PET) scanner combined with a computed tomography (CT) scanner manufactured by Siemens. This is the first and only PET scanner in Southwestern Bulgaria. The Nuclear Medicine Department, where it is located, is of strategic importance for diagnostics and treatment as part of the multidisciplinary approach in the Oncology Center of Pulse Hospital.
PET/CT examination is performed with the radiopharmaceutical 18 F-FDG. The examination is used for early diagnosis of cancer (lung, breast, colon, lymphomas, melanomas, etc.), monitoring of therapy, as well as in some non-oncological diseases such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, inflammation, etc.
We accept patients from all over the country, trying to ensure the shortest possible time for reviewing documents and carrying out the procedure, under the terms of payment by the Health Insurance Fund or as a paid service.

Documents for registration for the examination can be submitted on site or sent:

by courier to the address: Blagoevgrad, 62 Slavyanska Street, Pulse Hospital, Nuclear Medicine Department.
Procedure
In order to conduct the examination, you must be approved by a specialized committee at the Department of Nuclear Medicine. At the registry office in the department or to an e-mail address or phone application (Viber) specified by you, you will be provided with a list of required documents and information, mainly copies of epicrisis reports, imaging studies, tumor markers, etc. related to the disease.
After reviewing the documents by the committee, you will receive a call from our employee and, upon approval, you will be notified of the date of the examination, and you will be provided with additional written instructions for its conduct.
Outpatient sheet, Referral Form 8A /Procedure No. 36 for PET/CT/ and results of blood sugar and creatinine tests are submitted AFTER approval by the committee, in view of their deadline.
Important! The examination is conducted at least 3 weeks after chemotherapy, 6 weeks after surgery and 12 weeks after radiotherapy

The department employs a team of highly qualified specialists with extensive professional experience in nuclear medicine.
The team works in close cooperation with our doctors from the departments of oncology, radiotherapy, surgery, urology, gastroenterology, pathoanatomy and other specialists from the Oncology Center of Pulse Hospital, as well as with external structures and prominent specialists from leading Sofia hospitals, which allows for timely diagnosis, monitoring and treatment in one place, while ensuring maximum patient comfort.
